Privacy-first software, engineered in Dorset
Web apps, browser extensions, and Joomla plugins. Zero tracking, zero data harvesting, zero compromise - the way software should be.
Independent, privacy-first software from Poole, Dorset
Digital Fracture is a self-funded software studio based in Poole, Dorset, shipping privacy-first web apps, browser extensions for Firefox, Chrome, Edge and Thunderbird, and Joomla plugins under the Retro Media Vault brand. Nothing on this page loads Google Analytics, sells data to an ad network, or phones home with usage telemetry - every tool is built to do its job and then get out of the way. Because we're funded by the people buying the paid products rather than by investors, the roadmap is driven by real-world use cases and not by engagement targets or "growth experiments" at the expense of the people using the software.

The three categories above aren't really separate products - they're different delivery mechanisms for the same idea. A browser extension is the right shape when a tool has to sit alongside every page you visit (RSS detection, fingerprint protection, parental whitelisting); a web app is the right shape when the tool needs to work anywhere you have a browser, without installing anything (InfoBin's encrypted uploads, RSS Kit's feed-finder); a Joomla plugin is the right shape when the tool has to drop into an existing content-managed site without replacing its CMS (every Retro Media Vault plugin). Whichever form factor a project takes, the rules underneath - no tracking, minimal permissions, open data, maintained for the long haul - stay identical.
Our Approach
The rules we follow when building every tool we ship.
Privacy by default
No analytics. No tracking pixels. No third-party cookies. No data sold, shared, or handed over. If a feature can't work without collecting data, we don't ship it.
Fast and lightweight
Hand-written code - no bloated frameworks where they aren't needed. Pages load fast, extensions stay out of your way, and plugins don't slow your site down.
Independent and funded ourselves
No investors to appease, no growth targets driving bad decisions. We answer to the people using our tools, not to a board. That's why our tools stay small and focused.
Maintained, not abandoned
We keep our extensions compatible with the latest Firefox, Chrome, and Edge releases. Plugins track Joomla's release cycle. Web apps get security updates as needed.
Open standards, no lock-in
OPML for feeds, standard file formats for exports, plain HTML and CSS for our sites. Your data stays yours, and you can walk away with it any time.
Accessible by default
Keyboard navigation, screen-reader labels, sensible colour contrast, and respect for reduced-motion preferences. Baked in from the start, not bolted on.
Built to standards, kept current
Every extension we ship is Manifest V3 compliant on Chrome and Edge and tracks the current Firefox extension API. Our Joomla plugins are tested against each Joomla 5.x release and carry a lifetime update guarantee through the current major version. Our web apps run on long-term-supported stacks and lean on open standards - OPML for feed portability, ICS for calendar data, JSON for settings exports - so you can always walk away with everything you've put in. If a feature depends on a third-party service that might disappear, we document the dependency in plain sight rather than burying it in the privacy policy.
